Biography
Born in Casablanca in 1971 and trained in Modern Literature and Art History at Paris X Nanterre University, Meryem Sebti began her career in general-interest journalism, working for La Vie Éco and Le Journal Hebdomadaire. Decorated in 2014 with the Wissam Al Moukafaâ Al Watania, Order of Officer, by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, she now pursues a mission: bridging the worlds of art, architecture, and society through ambitious and unifying cultural projects. For more than fifteen years, Meryem Sebti has supported institutions, foundations, and companies seeking to place contemporary art at the heart of their cultural strategy. As an artistic director, editor, and specialist in Arab and African artistic ecosystems, she designs initiatives for the promotion of art—museums, collections, competitions, or exhibitions—that adhere to international standards while remaining rooted in each project’s local context. Founder and director of DIPTYK Magazine since 2009, a leading publication on African and Arab contemporary art (print, digital, and podcast), Meryem Sebti has developed unparalleled on-the-ground knowledge of artists, curators, galleries, collectors, and art fairs across the continent and the global scene. Her dual Moroccan and European heritage, along with her regular presence at major platforms—1-54 London and Marrakech, Art Basel Paris, Art Dubai, Abu Dhabi Art, Sharjah Biennial, Qatar Museums, Dakar Biennale, and Venice Biennale—inform her nuanced understanding of the aesthetic, economic, and geopolitical stakes of contemporary creation.
